Part 1:
July 15th 2015 – Our profile is entered into the books.
July 21st 2015 – 9AM and well into my busy work day. My phone rings (naturally thinking it’s either Eric or my boss) and I see UNKNOWN on my caller ID. (Most people wouldn’t want to see this, but in our case it most likely means it’s our social worker) Thoughts of “oh my gosh I’m going to have to redo a section of our profile and it’s going to take forever to put all those books back together again” ran through my head until.. Meredith (Our social worker) says “So we have a situation”.
Side note on “SITUATION”. Our social worker won’t always call us when our profile is shown. When our profile key matches an expectant mother’s key our profile will be shown. If there’s something that came up that wasn’t addressed in the key or just one thing didn’t match our social worker will call us and tell us the situation and ask whether we want our profile to be shown.
After I have a mini freak out (Luckily Meredith’s computer was having issues and she had to call me back) I texted Eric (Who’s just getting home and ready to get into bed). Needless to say Eric wasn’t going to bed anytime soon. When Meredith called back we spoke about the situation, and while she was explaining I had made up my mind that I wanted our profile to be shown. After finishing our conversation I immediately called Eric to relay the details of the situation. He agreed and we both emailed Meredith that we wanted our profile to be shown.
Meredith had told me that the couple would be reviewing profiles at 4PM that day. So I went back to working and Eric tried to go back to sleep. I came home and saw Eric for an hour before he left for work (Have I mentioned how much I dislike his “schedule”). We didn’t hear from Meredith that night. Wednesday we received an email from Meredith that we would have an answer on Thursday. (Another day of anxious, nervousness, excitement)
Thursday came and went.
Friday we got an email that the birth family had decided not to use the agency. Half knowing that this email was coming, it wasn’t as big of a letdown as we were expecting. Sure, we wanted to be those people that were picked right after going into the books, but we know that our baby and “situation” is out there!
Fast forward to this past Tuesday when I received another phone call from an UNKNOWN caller! Unfortunately, we were unable to accept the situation. But I’m beginning to like these calls and they say third times a charm? Until then we’ll be waiting for an UNKNOWN caller.
